The Victorian Transport Plan
Victoria has grown remarkably over the years.
[animation of aerial view over Melbourne, zooming into city; animation of buildings growing]
In fact, more people than ever want to live, work and raise a family in our state.
To support this strong, state wide growth, over the next thirty years, the Victorian Government will deliver major transport and infrastructure projects that will shape how we live and how we travel in the future.
In this time it is expected that Melbourne alone will grow to more than 5 million people.
One of just 100 cities on the planet to reach that size.
[animation of trams moving]
To make movement easy for this new, inner city, population, there will be greater on road priority for a modern fleet of larger trams.

And new cycling tracks will be constructed in the 10 KM centre ring.
And as Melbourne continues to grow, new work and lifestyle opportunities will be created in centres like Dandenong, Frankston, Box Hill, Broadmeadows, and Footscray, as well as cities like Geelong.
[animation of new train line (Regional Rail Link) progressing towards Melbourne from Geelong]
To support the growth in Melbourne's west, a regional rail link and an alternative to the Westgate Bridge will be constructed.
[animation of cars moving through a road tunnel]
This road tunnel will reduce congestion on the M1.

While a rail tunnel will provide for growth in commuter services for Melbourne and major regional cities like Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong…
Up to 70 new trains, as well as new rail extensions, including Cranbourne East, South Morang, Sunbury and Melton will increase services.

But these plans for future growth are not the start … in fact a host of other regional and metropolitan projects are already underway. Including the completion of the Calder Highway upgrade and the North East rail project.

And while many things will change over the next 30 years, the Victorian Government's vision ensures a common sense approach to planned growth, that will protect the liveability of this state for all Victorians.
